What is Cement Floor Epoxy?  Epoxy is a versatile material that has many uses.  It is polymer which is formed when resin (or epoxide) reacts with a hardening agent (called polyamine).  The two agents are packaged separately, and mixed soon before they are applied.

Because of the resin agent, and its hardening properties, epoxy is sometimes referred to as epoxy resin.  Epoxy has been used in commercial application since 1927.  Epoxy is a glue type substance, and is often used as an adhesive.

However, because it is a hardener, it also has excellent preservative properties.

Epoxy And Its Many Uses

Cement floor epoxy has a wide number of uses, both in commercial manufacturing and for household use.  It is resistant to heat, humidity, water, and excessive temperature.  Because of these properties, it is often applied to materials to help preserve them and protect them against the elements.
The number of commercial system uses for epoxy is endless.

Areas that undergo a lot of wear and tear are often treated with epoxy coatings.  Airplanes, ships, and other vehicles are often treated with a layer of epoxy.  Many types of commercial manufactured flooring is treated with epoxy to withstand the wear and tear that often damages floors.

Epoxy is also used on a variety of athletic equipment, especially sports equipment that is used outdoors.

Surf boards, and skis, and golf clubs are often protected by epoxy so that they last for many years. Because of the insulation and bonding properties, epoxy can be used in electronics and circuit boards also.

Cement Floor Epoxy and Home Use

Epoxy is available to the general public, and can be purchased at a retail store or a hardware store.  It typically comes packed in two separate containers (one for the resin and one for the hardening agent).

The other choice would be for cement floor epoxy which would be used to protect flooring surfaces. Cement floor epoxy can be applied as a paint for protection.

Immediately before the user wants to apply the epoxy, they mix the two containers into one.  The epoxy gets applied to the surface while wet, and takes a bit of time to dry.  The time it takes to dry can depend on the brand used.

With cement floor epoxy, the common home application would be for painting cement garage floors in the form of ready to use. Epoxy floor colors are almost unlimited in choice.

Some brands estimate that it takes at least six minutes for the mixture to bond to an agent, and 30 minutes to fully dry.
